What is fisetin?
Fisetin, also known as fexanthone, flavonol or flavan-3-ol,, is a class of plants extracted from plants such as mullein number in the lacquer tree family,is a natural flavonoid compound widely found in nature, with pharmacological properties and biological activities such as antioxidant and anti-inflammatory.

Fisetin's source and chemical structure
Fisetin is mainly derived from the plant world, especially in many fruits, vegetables, tea and red wine and other foodstuffs. In addition, some Chinese herbs such as ginkgo biloba and hawthorn are also rich in fisetin. The chemical structure of fisetin contains several phenolic hydroxyl and ketone groups, and these structural features endow fisetin with good antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor biological activities.

Bioactivity of fisetin
1. Antioxidant effect: fisetin has strong antioxidant ability, fisetin can directly scavenge free radicals, enhance the level of glutathione, can remove free radicals in the body, reduce oxidative stress on cell damage. May help maintain glutathione levels and mitochondrial function in the presence of oxidative stress. And may help regulate the production of many proteins that are involved in protecting the body from oxidative stress and maintaining redox homeostasis. This is the mechanism by which glutathione achieves its antioxidant effects.
It has the potential to cross the blood-brain barrier, it can cross the blood-brain barrier and then exert a “pruning” effect, removing senescent cells and allowing healthy cells to replace old, useless and even potentially harmful cells, and it has been suggested that it has twice the ability of quercetin to do this. This may help maintain neuronal function.
The antioxidant properties of fisetin have a favorable protective effect on the cardiovascular, nervous and immune systems.
2. Anti-inflammatory effect: fisetin can inhibit the production and release of various inflammatory mediators and reduce inflammatory reactions. Therefore, fisetin has certain application potential in the treatment of inflammatory diseases, such as arthritis, gastritis and so on.
3. Anti-tumor effect: fisetin can inhibit the proliferation and metastasis of tumor cells and induce apoptosis of tumor cells. In addition, it can enhance the efficacy of chemotherapeutic drugs and reduce the damage of chemotherapeutic drugs on normal cells. Therefore, fisetin has a wide range of application prospects in the field of tumor therapy. It has the functions of anti-human lung cancer cells, anti-uterine cancer cells, anti-human skin cancer cells and human colon cancer cells. Its main mechanism is to induce the organ differentiation of cancer cells into normal cells by transforming cancer cell genes.
4. Other biological activities: In addition to the above effects, fisetin also has a variety of biological activities such as hypoglycemic, hypolipidemic, antibacterial, etc. These effects make fisetin useful in diabetes mellitus. These effects make fisetin also have certain potential in the treatment of diabetes, hyperlipidemia, infectious diseases and other diseases.

The application prospect of fisetin
1. Pharmaceutical field: fisetin has a broad application prospect in the field of medicine. At present, there are some drugs with fisetin as the main component used in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, tumors and so on. With the in-depth research on the biological activity of fisetin, more drugs based on fisetin will come out in the future, providing more choices for clinical treatment.
2. Food field: As a natural antioxidant, fisetin can be added to food to improve the antioxidant property of food. At the same time, fisetin can also improve the color and taste of food. Therefore, enchitin has a broad application prospect in the food industry.
3. Cosmetic field: fisetin has good antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, which can protect the skin from external environmental damage. In addition, it can inhibit the formation of melanin and reduce the production of pigmented spots and freckles. Therefore, the application of fisetin in the field of cosmetics is also getting more and more attention.
