Codonopsis pilosula (Franch.) Nannf. is a perennial herbaceous vine of the genus Codonopsis in the family Eustoma. The root of Codonopsis pilosula (Franch. Nannf.) is conical, with gray-yellow surface and ring, the head of the root has raised stem scar and buds, which is known as "lion's head", and there are branches from the middle of the root; the rhizomes are smooth and more in number, and all of them are entangled together.
